This is one of the questions we get most often, and we have a real answer for it that doesn’t involve a vague suggestions about “listening to your skin.” Here it is: for most people, a facial every four weeks is the sweet spot. Here’s why that number exists, and when it might change for you.

Your skin’s natural cycle
Skin cell turnover happens on roughly a 28-day cycle, depending on your age and overall skin health. New cells form at the base of the epidermis and travel to the surface, where they eventually shed. As we get older, that cycle slows down, which is part of why skin can look dull or congested without regular professional care.
A facial at the four-week mark works with that cycle instead of against it. You’re treating skin that has completed a full regeneration, which means extractions are more effective, exfoliation has more to work with, and the products your esthetician uses can penetrate more deeply into skin that’s been properly prepped.
When to come in more often
If you’re actively working through breakouts, congestion, or a specific concern like hyperpigmentation, coming in every two to three weeks during a treatment series can accelerate results significantly. This is especially true for acne-prone skin, where regular extractions and targeted treatments prevent the buildup that leads to new breakouts. Think of it less like a luxury and more like physical therapy: consistent, targeted sessions produce outcomes that a single appointment can’t. And many modalities like diamond tip microdermabrasion and dermaplaning are suggested in regular intervals at the start of your skincare journey.
New clients in particular often benefit from a more frequent start. Your first few facials with us are diagnostic as much as they are restorative. We’re learning your skin, understanding how it behaves after treatment, and building a picture of what it actually needs. Coming in monthly or more for the first few months gives us that foundation faster.
When every six to eight weeks is fine
If your skin is generally well-balanced and you have a solid at-home routine, spacing facials out to every six weeks is reasonable. You may not see the same pace of improvement as a monthly client, but you’ll maintain what you’ve built and give your esthetician the chance to address anything that’s shifted. This frequency works well for clients who are in a maintenance phase rather than working through a specific concern. But we created the best facial membership so that you can pamper (or spoil) yourself monthly as its incredible what laying down in silence can do for the nervous system, and your overall wellbeing.
What actually changes with consistency
The difference between a client who comes in once a year and one who comes monthly is significant and visible. Consistent facial clients tend to have smaller-looking pores over time, more even tone, and noticeably better texture. Their skin responds to products more effectively because the surface layer is regularly being cleared, and their esthetician knows enough about their skin to catch changes early.
Our facial membership at Cheeks + Co is built around this idea. A monthly facial at a reduced rate creates the routine that most people intend to have but don’t maintain without some structure. Members also get priority booking and discounts on our skincare products, along with discounts on additional services like brows and waxing, which supports the work we do in the treatment room.
The honest bottom line
If you can only come in once a year, come in once a year. A facial once a year is still better than none, and every visit teaches us something about your skin. But if you’re asking what actually produces results, monthly is the answer, and the membership we offer at both our Pasadena and West Adams locations makes that sustainable.
